Caring for your Flooring
CARPET
Regular Vacuuming keeps your carpets looking their best.
A good tip is to rake your carpet prior to using the vacuum cleaner. This will loosen dirt, pet hairs and raise the pile, making vacuuming more effective.
Stubborn Spills and Stains
Swift action to stop them spreading or penetrating the carpet fibres.
Scrape solids with a spoon or palette knife, always work towards the centre of the spillage to prevent spreading the stain.
Blot liquids with a clean white cloth or paper towel.
Periodic Cleaning by Professionals
Keep your carpets looking as good as the day you bought them. There are too many risks involved if you shampoo the carpet yourself or use unqualified carpet cleaning companies.
Stain Removal Tips
In a busy house with a young family or pets, spills and stains can happen at any time. Most stains that are allowed to dry overnight will become more difficult to remove. This also applies to hot beverages as they become heat set. So whenever possible always deal with any stains as soon as they happen. Cover gloss paint with cling film or polythene to prevent drying. Tackle spillages and stains immediately, don’t leave them until later or allow them to dry.
Blot away all the liquid stain with dry kitchen towel or a clean white dry cloth.
Semi-solid substances should be removed with a plastic spatula.
Remember to be patient – don’t rub vigorously or over-soak the stain.
Always work from the outside of the stain inwards to minimise it spreading.
To clean off any remaining stains, blot with a clean, damp cloth.
LAMINATE
Laminate floorings are extremely robust and low-maintenance; nevertheless correct floor cleaning is important.
Small marks can be quickly and easily removed with a damp cloth.
For day-to-day maintenance, use a vaccum or a brush.
Ensure during cleaning that the cloth is never wet, but only damp.
If you clean your laminate flooring with cleaning agents, you must make sure that no residues remain on the floor.
LUXURY VINYL TILE (LVT)
LVT requires very basic maintenance to keep it clean, using only a brush and a mop, you can have your floor looking brand new in no time.
Removing any dirt and dust from your floors with a quick vacuum will leave your LVT flooring looking clean and tidy with minimal effort.
A weekly wipe-down with a mop or some antibacterial wipes will replenish the surface of your floor and give it the ‘new floor shine’ again.
Wring out your cloth/mop thoroughly before using it to clean up any stains, don’t drown your floor in water!
For any stains, using a soft-bristle brush, in circular movements, rub over the stained area and it should lift any dirt that’s stuck in the crevices of your LVT flooring. Be gentle and avoid using abrasive materials that can scratch the surface.
Do not use a steam cleaner on LVT tiles.
